Before you buy: a collector’s checklist
The yellow on the face in Agrume’s GIRASOLE is easy to spot on a screen. The size of the sheet is harder to picture. Before an image becomes an acquisition, a few practical questions need answers: which object are you choosing, what accompanies it, and how will it reach you?
This checklist is for the moment between finding an artwork you want to spend time with and committing to buy it. Keep the actual artwork page open alongside it. You do not need to become an art-market specialist; you need to know what is clear and what still needs asking.
In brief
- Identify the exact work and record the information that matters to your choice.
- Check scale, condition, documentation and the complete cost.
- Establish collection or delivery arrangements before committing.
- Ask for clarification where needed. A conversation is optional support, not a compulsory route to purchase.

Example: GIRASOLE in the shop
Start with the work itself
The GIRASOLE artwork page brings together an object and an introduction to the artist’s practice. The Agrume artist page offers wider context. Keep those two kinds of information separate: a general artist description does not establish the materials, date or history of this particular work.
Write down the artist, exact title, stated medium, dimensions and year, where supplied. If a field is absent or unclear, leave it as a question. For an edition, check the edition size and the particular example being offered. Do not assume that a signature, certificate or frame is included because you encountered one with another artwork.
Then add a sentence of your own: what makes you return to this piece? That answer need not sound knowledgeable. It should help you distinguish a lasting interest from an attractive thumbnail.
Bring scale and condition into the decision
Measure the space you have in mind and compare it with the stated artwork dimensions. Ask whether those measurements include the frame and, for an object with depth, how that depth is specified. A photograph alone cannot settle those questions.
If the photographs leave something important uncertain, request a full view or a relevant detail. Ask about the work’s current condition and any points you should know before purchase. Where looking in person would change your decision, consider a visit. Galerie Dumas describes itself as an apartment gallery in Linz on its homepage, which also provides visit information.
For placement or handling questions specific to the material, seek guidance appropriate to that work.
Know what will be documented
Establish which documents will accompany the work and how the invoice will identify it. Ask what information is available about its origin and history; an artist biography is not an ownership record.
In Taking Care of Art | Behind the Scenes, Dumas recommends keeping good photographs with the gallery invoice and certificate of authenticity. It is a useful habit to carry into a new acquisition. First check which documents actually accompany yours.
Check the whole commitment
Record the artwork price and any applicable delivery, framing or other agreed costs separately. A displayed artwork price does not necessarily settle the total for your destination.
Read the published terms of sale before ordering, including delivery, receipt and withdrawal provisions. The page states a last update of 6 March 2026; check the version applicable when you buy. Those conditions, rather than this checklist, set out the purchase terms.
Establish when the work can be collected or dispatched, especially if a particular date matters. Dumas has advertised worldwide delivery, while its published terms describe Austria and the European Union and direct buyers elsewhere to contact the gallery. For another destination, clarify the arrangements before ordering.
The gallery’s eye: a way to approach the decision
Try this: leave room for your response to the artwork to change over time, while settling the practical questions before buying. You do not have to explain everything the work means to you. You should understand which work you are buying and what has been agreed.

Take the next step
Return to GIRASOLE and its purchase information or explore Agrume’s artist page.
Where online purchase is offered and the details are clear, you can buy directly. If something remains unanswered, find Galerie Dumas’s contact and visit information. A conversation can help without becoming an extra hurdle.
