Carole A. Feuerman (geboren 1945 in New York) ist eine international anerkannte superrealistische Bildhauerin, deren technisch anspruchsvolle, monumentale figurative Werke zu Bezugspunkten der zeitgenössischen Bildhauerei geworden sind. Bekannt für ihre Schwimmerfiguren, darunter Innertube und The Golden Mean, verbindet Feuerman eine detailgenaue Oberflächengestaltung mit einem architektonischen Gespür für Präsenz. So entstehen Werke, die zugleich als intime Porträts und als markante Bezugspunkte im öffentlichen Raum wirken. Ihre Praxis umfasst Installationen im Innen- und Außenraum, durch Wasser aktivierte Projekte sowie eine neuere Serie mythologischer Bildwelten.
Feuerman begann ihre berufliche Laufbahn in den 1960er-Jahren mit Zeichnungen und Gemälden für The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper und The New York Times. In den 1970er-Jahren begann sie eine Serie fragmentierter Wandarbeiten. In den 1990er-Jahren wurden ihre in Harz und Bronze gegossenen Werke überlebensgroß. Ihre technische Meisterschaft, das sorgfältige Modellieren und die präzise Ausarbeitung dienen einem konzeptuellen Anliegen: Körper darzustellen, die als lebendige Präsenzen wahrgenommen werden und zugleich zum Nachdenken über Sichtbarkeit, Resilienz und kollektive Erinnerung anregen.
Ihre Werke wurden an bedeutenden internationalen Orten gezeigt, darunter Park Avenue, Central Park und das Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; Palazzo Bonaparte und Palazzo Strozzi in Italien; die Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery; und das State Hermitage Museum. Sie befinden sich in den ständigen Sammlungen von mehr als dreißig Museen sowie im Besitz der Städte Sunnyvale, CA, und Peekskill, NY. Zu den namhaften privaten Sammlern zählen Steven A. Cohen, William L. Mack, Glenn Fuhrman, Alexandre Grendene, der ehemalige Präsident Bill Clinton, Andrea Bocelli und Malcolm Forbes. Feuerman hielt Vorträge und leitete Workshops an Institutionen wie dem Guggenheim Museum und dem Metropolitan Museum of Art. 2011 gründete sie die Feuerman Sculpture Foundation, um die bildhauerische Praxis und die Auseinandersetzung der Öffentlichkeit mit dreidimensionaler Kunst zu fördern. 2025 initiierte ihre Stiftung den Feuerman Sculpture Park am Medici Museum in Ohio.
Zu den Auszeichnungen für Feuermans Beitrag zur zeitgenössischen Kunst zählen der Lifetime Achievement Award des International Sculpture Center (2026), der World of Peace Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts (Athen), der Goddess Artemis Lifetime Achievement Award des EAWC, der erste Preis des Huan Tai Hu Museum (Changzhou), die Auszeichnung Best in Show der Beijing Biennale, der Amelia Peabody Award und der Medici Award in Florenz.

„Meine Arbeit erkundet eine produktive Spannung zwischen Wirklichkeitstreue und Metapher. Ich möchte den menschlichen Körper mit kompromisslosem Realismus darstellen: nasse Haut, schimmerndes Wasser, ausbalancierte Muskulatur. So sollen die Betrachtenden eine unmittelbare, beinahe haptische Nähe erfahren, die sich anschließend für größere Fragen nach Identität, Ausdauer und öffentlichem Leben öffnet. Wasser kehrt als formales und symbolisches Element wieder: als Spiegel, Schleier und Träger von Verwandlung. In neueren Projekten wird der Körper als Palimpsest behandelt: Tätowierte Oberflächen und aufgebrachte Ornamente werden zu narrativen Feldern, in denen sich private Geschichten mit dem gemeinsamen kulturellen Gedächtnis kreuzen. Für mich ist das Hyperreale keine Illusion, sondern Offenbarung: ein Mittel, durch sorgfältiges Handwerk und anhaltende Empathie inneres Leben und gesellschaftliche Möglichkeiten sichtbar zu machen.“
